Hearts for the Homeless

Dear Holy Redeemer Families:

We would like to do our Hearts for the Homeless lunches again this year.  This is a great experience for the students, as they will be participating in helping to make 200 lunches for the George Spady Centre in Edmonton. The project started two years ago as a way to get the kids involved with helping and understanding the needs in many of our local communities.  The K-2 classes will be making heart shaped messages to go into the lunches.  The grades 3-6 will be making cookies with parent helpers and grades 7-8 will be making sandwiches and assembling lunches.

This year we will be asking all the students to bring in two pieces of fruit, either apples or oranges by Wednesday, March 9th  but we will not be collecting money as PAC put aside some money collected from Shrove Tuesday to be able to cover the cost of supplies.
We will need parent volunteers who can help with the making of cookies and helpers to guide the students assembling the lunches.

Tuesday, March 8th, 8:15 – 12:00 (grades 3-6).
This year we going to try and have all the cookie dough made in one morning, so we will need:
-        4-6 parents that will help the students mix up the cookie dough. They will need to bring 2 large mixing bowls, measuring cups & spoons, mixing spoons, and an electric hand mixer.
-        1 parent runner who will help with getting the ingredients and going back and forth to the kitchen.

Thursday, March 10th , 8:30 – 9:30 (grades 7-8) will need:
-        6 volunteers to help organize and supervise the stations that will be run assembly line style.
-         We would also like to have a few parents that will be able to help us deliver to the George Spady centre.
